Energy-LED is a turnkey LED lighting solutions provider. It works closely with companies to implement new LED lighting solutions that significantly reduce lighting energy consumption, helping companies save on ever-increasing energy costs.
Not only do LED lighting solutions reduce energy costs, but they also reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Reducing GHG emissions is becoming increasingly important given the need to limit the effects of climate change. Although LED lighting reduces energy and GHG emissions, there are still barriers to the widespread adoption of LEDs in South Africa, particularly in industrial and commercial facilities. To alleviate these barriers, facilitate and accelerate the uptake of LEDs in South Africa, Energy-LED plans to develop and register a carbon credit project for LED projects in industrial and commercial facilities. The intention is that the proceeds from the sale of any carbon credits earned will make LED lighting projects more attractive, alleviating the barriers.
By reducing energy consumption, the project will have positive impacts on the environment as much of South Africa’s energy is generated from coal-fired power stations which are GHG emissions intensive. In addition, accelerating the update of LEDs will have a positive impact on job creation. As more companies install LEDs, people will be needed to carry out these installations.
